How I Work
I offer my clients the same comfort and convenience that I would want as a client.
Comfort: I allow you to begin by hiring me for only an hour or two or more, according to your comfort level and the nature of the assignment. You get to try me out, see my work, and decide how you want to proceed. Even after that, I allow you to purchase just a few hours at a time. This win-win approach allows you to be a cautious steward of your financial resources, while I have the personal satisfaction of seeing clients return even when unfettered by a contract. My goal is that you are thrilled with the investment you are making and the benefits derived.
Of course, some clients prefer to reserve large numbers of hours so that other clients can’t jump in ahead of them while I await further instructions. I am happy to accommodate that preference as well. Either way, your comfort is my priority.
If your budget is extremely tight, I can make suggestions for improvement and then release you to go make the changes on your own, and then you can return to me with a revised manuscript. Sometimes, I do the more substantive editing, but the client passes the manuscript to a co-worker or friend for final proofreading. Everything is based upon your individual goals and standards.
Convenience: When editing, I go through the manuscript line by line, making corrections and suggestions, and also posting occasional questions or ideas. I use the Track Changes feature in Microsoft Word, which is very convenient for you and will save you countless hours of time.
Because I’m a writer as well as an editor, I can rewrite passages if you so desire. I’m also available for developmental editing, which means I work with you even in the early planning stages.
We communicate via email for the most part, and you can pay through my website’s purchasing page. So, though I live in Illinois, you can hire me from anywhere in the world.
